Help H.O.M.E. care for Chicago’s low-income elderly by donating furniture

Each day in Chicago, more than 51,000 seniors living on less than $10,000 face
enormous challenges in their efforts to maintain independence and dignity. For the last
25 years H.O.M.E. (Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly) has met
those needs head-on.

When H.O.M.E. caseworkers visit potential clients to assess a living situation,
the most Immediate need they have is for a bed. All too regularly they discover impoverished frail elderly sleeping on the floor with only cushions or blankets for support and warmth. On average, forty percent of our clients require beds and some months more than half the seniors contacting H.O.M.E. lack adequate bedding.

Our free Moving and Furniture Donation Program is the only such program in the
Chicago area and to our knowledge, the nation. Last year  H.O.M.E. assisted 1,300
low-Income senior households with free furniture donations and relocated 273 low-income Elderly. The impact of our housing and support services is dramatic and immediate.

To help meet the needs of this growing population, H.O.M.E. also offers free upkeep
and Repair services, free shopping transportation and maintains three intergenerational
Apartment buildings. Our newest program helps establish physically able seniors in
Independent quarters when they leave nursing homes.

How To Help

Although our service record is strong, demands for our services continue to soar. Support from our donor public is critical to H.O.M.E.‘s ability to improve the lives of our low-Income elderly. A gift of new or gently used furniture will help make the life of a needy senior more comfortable.
(H.O.M.E. is classified as tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3))
